So I Bought a Training Studio

I never wanted to be a stay at home mom. Never. The thought never even crossed my mind. I did know that one benefit to owning my own personal training business was that (in theory) I make my own hours, and I can choose not to expand the business based on life events. After having her, my plan was to maintain my existing clients and kind of hang out in that space.

As the summer progressed, I found that I was turning potential clients away - sending them to other qualified trainers or just saying no to them. So I got to thinking - maybe I should hire an employee. Although with training most of my clients out of my house, that posed for an issue with location of where they would train, etc. I let that idea drop. But then, I heard of an opportunity - the owner of the personal training studio where I started training my first clients was selling her business - well technically only the assets, not the business. So after MUCH hemming and hawing (ask Chris - my decision changed literally by the hour) and much prayer, I decided to go for it.

I acquired Powered By You Training Studio, effective Jan 1 - including the other trainer contractors and the existing clients. I immediate renamed and rebranded it to Vitality Training Studio (it took a LONG time to come up with that name). Let me tell you, the month of December and January was rough! Trying to figure out all the systems and processes to make the transition seemless, losing quite a few long time clients on Day 2, trying not to screw up. I regretted my decision and needed friends to talk me off the ledge A LOT.

But now that it's the end of Feb, we already had our open house, I rebranded and changed around the studio, successfully ran the KICK START nutrition program, added a bunch of more small group classes, I am feeling a lot better about it. Some days, depending on the circumstances, I still feel like I don't know what I am doing, but thankfully those days are getting to be fewer. I still feel like I am a failure at my job some days - and as a mom. I am spending a lot of time being gone (thank God for a good nanny a couple days a week!) and when I am home, I find myself trying to get "one more thing" finished. It's a struggle for a working mom - especially one who owns their own business - meaning you never get off work. Like right now, Sloane is crawling around the living room, playing with Jersey's (our dog) toys.

But overall, I am so excited about the possibilities and having an impact on even more people! Unlike large chain gyms, Vitality is a small, semi-private studio. It provides a safe space for clients to feel safe confident to get their health back - or whatever their goal is. If you are in the area, I encourage you to stop by and check us out!
